Hospital Director Arrested for Demanding Kickback from Contractor

The director of state-run Hospital in central Thailand has been arrested for allegedly demanding kickbacks from a contractor over a 280,000-baht computer system.

Police from the Counter Corruption Division and officials from the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) apprehended Dr. Wichai Rattthanaphanphanit, 53, director of Bangkruai Hospital while he was receiving 93,000 baht in kickbacks from the contractor of the hospital’s computer system in his office on Thursday.

Police said the contractor had filed a complaint with the PACC, asking the agency to look into the conduct of the accused hospital director.

Phuket police have reported a 57 year-old Swiss woman, 57 has been found dead among rocks at a waterfall on Thursday afternoon. She was believed to be raped and murdered, according to the Bangkok Post.

Natthapong Seedam, 31, informed local police after finding the body around 1.30pm.

Police found the Swiss woman’s body lying face down in the water among rocks about one kilometer from the entrance of the Ao Yon waterfall in tambon Wichit in Phuket. Her body was covered with a black sheet.

Police have arrested a man for taking orders on Facebook for “alternative vaccines” against Covid-19, then failing to deliver them and allegedly pocketing about 200,000 baht.

Police said Thapakorn Kaewsri, 20, was detained on Tuesday in a hotel room in tambon Ko Somboon of Si Maha Phot district, Prachin Buri province.
